About

Raja Jagat Kishore Acharya Chowdhury, zamindar of the Aat Ani house, brought the noted architect Moyez Uddin from Patna to build this temple and rewarded him handsomely for it. It was finished in 1863. Bengal builds in brick, and stone temples like this are rare: the only similar ones are at the Bhawal Rajbari and near the Murapara palace.

The temple is cut from stone throughout: one room and a verandah facing south, about 8 metres tall under a single shikhara, on a square plan of about 6.5 square metres. The walls carry carved patterns, leaf and vine work runs up the tower and the arches are finely shaped. It stands in Muktagachha town opposite the Armed Police Battalion camp.

Getting there: In Muktagachha town, opposite the Armed Police Battalion camp.

Things to do

  • Look closely at the carved vines on the tower.

Good to know
